ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The director of the Albany Convention and visitors bureau will now represent Albany at the state level.

Rashelle Beasley has been the director in Albany since 2012. This week she was appointed vice president of the Georgia Convention and Visitors Bureau board of directors.

She'll work on behalf of Georgia to advocate for tourism dollars and help attract more visitors.

"We cannot just promote the state with tourism and making sure that we get good visitors here but we're competitive with the states that are surrounding us," she said.

Beasley will also spread the story of Albany and help show off some of the hidden treasures in Southwest Georgia.
