VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

An Airman assigned to Moody Air Force Base's 38th Rescue Squadron, died Saturday near Ginnie Springs, Florida.

He was identified as Airman 1st Class Christopher O'Brien, a 25-year-old pararescue apprentice and native of Lebanon, Pennsylvania.

O'Brien is survived by his mother, Ms. Wendy Scarsborough.

The initial investigation indicates that O'Brien accidentally drowned while free-diving.  There is no evidence of foul play.

Further updates will be made as they become available.

"It is a great loss to us all when we lose a member of our Air Force family. Team Moody and I extend our deepest condolences and prayers to family and friends during this difficult time," said Col. Thomas Kunkel, 23rd Wing commander.
