WALB News 10 is your First Alert Station, and that is no more evident than in our weather coverage. Protecting you and your family is our main concern when it comes to the sometimes volatile conditions in Southwest Georgia.
The WALB First Alert Weather Team will declare a WALB First Alert Weather Day when threatening weather is possible.
This means that we are tracking the potential for active weather in our area and we want to keep you and your family safe by giving you advance notice.
We may declare a WALB First Alert Weather Day when high impact weather is likely, such as:
- Thunderstorms, tornadoes and tropical systems
- Heavy rain
- Extreme heat
- Extreme cold
You won't see a First Alert Weather Day for every single event, so when there is one, you should take it seriously. In short, if threatening conditions are possible in the WALB viewing area, we will declare a WALB First Alert Weather Day in order to give you the most advance warning possible - even before a watch or warning is issued by the National Weather Service. This gives you time to plan ahead, change plans if necessary - and ensure you are adequately prepared.
One of the first things you'll notice is a red First Alert Weather Day icon in the lower right corner of your TV screen. This gives you advanced warning of any potential weather hazards. We'll also alert you through our WALB First Alert Weather App, on social media and WALB.com for up-to-date conditions as we monitor events that could be dangerous or life threatening. On a First Alert Weather Day, we'll communicate to you our viewer and neighbor the latest and most accurate information.
You won't see a First Alert Weather Day for every single event so when there is one, you should take it seriously. Remember, a WALB First Alert Weather Day alerts you when threatening conditions are possible in the WALB viewing area. It's our way to highlight a specific day and draw attention to it. Our number one goal is to keep you and your family safe. A WALB First Alert Weather Day is an effort to make this message easy to share.
