ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Friday was the annual Cops at Donut Shops event.

Albany and Dougherty County Police and the sheriff's office teamed up with Dunkin Donuts on National Donut Day for a good cause.

The agencies are working to raise funds for special athletes.

The money raised helps athletes get to the Special Olympics throughout the state.

"It's a pretty costly endeavor and most of our special athletes don't hold down jobs and they're very limited in their funding so we try to help them where ever we can," said Dougherty County Sheriff, Kevin Sproul.

The money raised at the event helps to pay for the athletes' room and board so there's no cost to the athletes themselves or to their families.
