ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The murder trial of a Dougherty County woman charged with shooting her husband and staging his death to look like a suicide has been postponed.
Susan Embert's attorney says judges trying to clear backlogged cases caused the postponement of the trial that was scheduled for next week.
Embert is currently on house arrest in Worth County and allowed to work daily.
Prosecutors said Embert shot and killed 53-year-old Jake Embert in June 2014.
His family members are disappointed by the postponement.
"Many of them had mad preparations to attend the trial. Going as far as buying plane tickets, making reservations to be in Albany. As you know many of the family members are from out of state," said Lee Wilson with Southeast Legal Investigation & Detection. "Not only is it a financial issue, it's just disappointing. We're coming up on the two year anniversary of this case. Since Mr Embert died. And we fell the case should move forward."
The trial has not been rescheduled but is expected to be held in September or November.
