World Champion Thomasville students credit friendship, teamwork

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A group of Thomasville students left for the Odyssey of the Mind World Tournament and returned back on Sunday as champions.

Friends since eighth grade and teammates who now all share a new title, First place World Champions, said goal has been many years in the making. 

"A huge part of our teams success is the fact that we work so well together. and I think that if we didn't have that awesome dynamic I think we would be a far less successful team," said student Sharon Autry.

Odyssey of the Minds is a creative thinking competition. Students use their individual skills to come together as a team and solve different issues - all of this in just eight minutes.

"I don't know if it was originally planned that way for all of us to have sort of our own individual strengths but that's how it worked out and it's really nice that way," explained student Asa Harbin.

For their coach and long time supporter Sharon Cernogorsky, she is nothing but proud of what these students have accomplished. 

"They have worked, and worked, and worked. This just the epitome, the icing on the cake," said Cernogorsky.

Five of the seven students are headed off to college in the fall.

This program that have been apart of for years now serving as a stepping stone to a successful future.
