ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany church is collecting shoes for impoverished countries around the world.
Porterfield Memorial UMC Associate Pastor Nate Lehman said they're helping out a global non-profit called "Soles4Souls." Some of the shoes will be delivered to countries who have been hit by natural disasters.
He said often times we can take shoes for granted, which protect our feet from all kinds of harm.
"I think we do take for granted the shoes on our feet. You know shoes protect us from all sorts of things. One of the leading causes for infection is having sores on your feet. Especially in impoverished nations. You never know what they are walking into," said Lehman.
Anyone whose interested in donating can drop shoes off at the church on Dawson Road.
They also have some fun activities planned this week including barefoot Wednesday, people will walk in wearing shoes and leave barefoot.
