ALBANY, GA (WALB) - At sunrise on Monday, May 30, 2016, veterans lowered the American Flag at the American Legion Post 30 to half-staff to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
It's the one time of year that all of us get together specifically to memorialize those men and women," Judge Advocate Marvin Mixon said.
Active duty military, veterans, and their supporters sat down to breakfast. They were also joined by special guest, U.S. Congressman Sanford Bishop.
The Memorial Day Breakfast has been an ongoing tradition for the community.
"We've been having breakfast on Memorial Day since probably the 1920s," Mixon added.
All military services and their supporters were recognized during the ceremony.
"It's real special that all of us can get together," Mixon said.
The events ended with volunteers placing a wreath in front of several monuments throughout Downtown Albany.
"The Spanish American Monument, the Vietnam and Korean World War II Monument at the civic center, and the Eternal Flame in front of the courthouse," Mixon said.
A small token of appreciation to those who gave so much.
