ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The city of Albany is putting on a block party to connect East Albany with the Downtown area. The party will shut down the Broad Avenue Bridge for a few hours on Saturday.
Organizers encourage you to walk across the bridge and ride your bikes downtown.
There will also be music and food trucks.
The event will also help with a transportation study by looking at Broad Avenue, Oglethorpe Boulevard, and Radium Springs Road.
"We really want to connect East Albany with the downtown area and also allow people to come from downtown over to East Albany. We want to look at different ways that we can make that more appealing to people and also to just encourage them to come across the bridge and see what's over here," said transportation planner Kerrie Davis.
The party will also celebrate the opening of the downtown Splash Pad at Riverfront Park. It is free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The bridge will be shut down from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
