ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Decatur County School Board welcomed a new superintendent on Friday.

Earlier in the month, the board named Tim Cochran as the finalist for the position.

A law requires a 14 day waiting period from the time they are selected as a finalist and officially hiring them.

"Very excited about joining Decatur county schools there's a lot of great people over here and i look forward to getting to know them and work with them and do the very best we can for the kids of Decatur County," said Cochran.

Cochran is replacing Dr. Fred Rayfield, who is taking a superintendent position in Union County.
