SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

American flags went up all around Sylvester, in honor of the men and women who served and are currently serving our country.

Flags were on display surrounding the Worth County courthouse.

This weekend, American Legion Post 335 will put up 300 flags on a mile-long stretch of Highway 82.

Post 335 will also hold their first ceremony on Memorial Day for those killed in action.

"Everybody thinks of Memorial Day as a day to barbecue, go swimming, eat watermelon and ice cream. But it's really a day to remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice so that you can do those things today," said Commander Ray Humphrey.

The Memorial Day Service will begin Monday at 3 p.m. at the depot.

If you are a relative of someone killed during service and would like to participate in the ceremony, contact the American Legion Post in Sylvester at 229-343-6470.
