SUMTER CO., GA (WALB) -

Judge-Elect Jimmie Brown picked up signs on Wednesday as he celebrated his win in the Southwestern Circuit.

Brown will take the bench from Chief Judge George Peagler who is retiring.

Brown beat Assistant DA Lewis Lamb and Public Defender Kevin Kwashnak in the election Tuesday night.

"I'm really anxious to get started," said Brown. "I'm grateful the good people of the southwestern circuit for giving me this chance. I came from pretty beginnings. I've been practicing law for over 32 years so I think I bring that experience with me."

Brown congratulated Lamb and Kwashnak on their hard fought campaigns.

His term will start on January 1st.
