ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
An Albany funeral home says their service to provide rides to the polls was a success.
Poteat Funeral Home says after WALB’s story aired about their free rides their phones rang off the hook. The director says they provided rides for more than 20 people, most of them senior citizens.
"I thought about the Senior citizens that don't have vehicles and they would've had to rely on bus services and it would've been an inconvenience for them and some of them would have become discouraged about going to the polls,” said Jeffery Wakefield, Poteat Funeral Home Director. “So we wanted to make it convenient for them to get to the polls to vote and get back home."
Wakefield says they plan to continue this on future election days.
