DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - In a contentious Dougherty County school board race a retired educator comes out on top of a retired Marine. Geraldine Hudley beat Susie Ealum.
Geraldine West Hudley says she wanted to wait to make a statement as the winner until the final count was in. Her opponent Susie Ealum thinks voters made a mistake.
Hudley congregated with her supporters at the River Pointe Golf Club Tuesday evening, but wasn't ready to do an interview while WALB was there.
She has more than 40 years experience in public education.
Ealum says she's sad that the county elected someone that she believes has failed students in the past. Ealum says she's thankful for those that have stood behind her.
"I can't thank them enough in believing in me and none of that is in vain," said Susie Ealum. "I'm always going to stay involved in the community. I'm a leader, I'm a fighter. I do what we're here to do. The Lord didn't put us on this Earth to just sit."
Hudley will replace Dr. Lane Price who held the At-Large seat.
