ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
There's no substitute for experience, and that's exactly what the Knights are leaning on as they prepare for the state title game.
Deerfield is getting their last couple practices in before their state championship rematch this weekend.
The Knights will play Valwood on Friday in Milledgeville, the same team they swept last season in the title series.
Last year was the Knights' first championship since 2003. Coach Jonathan Davis will lean on experience to beat a team the Knights are all-too-familiar with.
"We have a great amount of respect for them in all sports," he said. "We've beat them once, they've beat us once, so I would say the matchup is pretty even and so it's going to be a challenge for us."
Chandler Matthews is a senior leader for the Knights. He was a member of the 2015 championship team, and will look for a similar team effort.
"We're going to try and do the same thing from last year," said the second baseman."Try to stay level-headed throughout the series. If we lose a game we know we can come back. We know we have the firepower to do whatever we need. And we're going to be confident."
First game of the championship series is Friday night at 7:30.
All games will be at Georgia college this weekend.
