AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - The Americus Sumter Chamber of Commerce is making changes to boost participation in the organization and boost the economy.
City leaders unveiled a plan to attract new members Monday.
They hope this new initiative and new structure boosts job growth and brings new businesses to town.
It's an exciting time in Americus and Sumter County.
This Jimmy Buffet themed party promotes "changes in latitudes and changes in attitudes" to bring a new vision to the chamber of commerce.
"We really want to boost membership even more. This is kind of kicking it all into a higher gear," said Chamber Chairman Jay Roberts.
The chamber unveiled 6 new divisions focusing on things like leadership, education, and business development Monday morning.
"The more success we can generate to our business partners in Sumter County, that'll help us grow jobs," said Roberts.
The goal is to get 100 new businesses to join more than 400 already a part of the group. Center Stage Market is one of the new businesses in town that joined the chamber.
"I really appreciate all of the networking that is available and the support. Whenever we have an event, the chamber is always there to support us," said founder and owner Kat Mournighan.
She said the chamber has helped her business grow over the last 9 months. She has advice for other businesses considering joining the chamber.
"It's important to be a part of a small town and in that small town when people pull together, we all do better," said Mournighan.
That's something chamber leaders hope other businesses soon realize.
The chamber has several events planned over the 5 week membership drive including a bed race and Buffet bash after hours.
