Wanted man found hiding in closet; woman also arrested

(Lowndes Co. Sheriff) (Lowndes Co. Sheriff)
VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Lowndes County deputies have been looking for Rickey Barron, 38, for multiple warrants including probation violation, family violence and cruelty to children related offenses, going back to 2014.

Sunday, they learned he was likely to be at a Brandonshire Lane address, so they went there with a warrant, and found Barron hiding in a closet.

They also arrested Octavia Johnson, 32, who lives in the home, for trying to help hide him.

They were both taken to the Lowndes County Jail and will appear in the Lowndes County Magistrate Court this afternoon where a bond will be considered.

"For two years to basically keep on something and keep looking, keep digging, keep working and then based with some information they received from our partners in the community, this is fantastic work," said Captain Stryde Jones with Lowndes County Sheriff's Office.

Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine said "The persistence of our investigators to keep searching and working on these cases is great. A person can’t hide forever, you are only prolonging the issue."

Rickey Bernard Barron is charged with: Violation of probation, Battery – Family Violence – two counts, Cruelty to children – four counts, False imprisonment,
Theft by taking, and Obstruction of an officer.

Octavia Johnson is charged with: Hindering apprehension of a wanted person, and Obstruction of an officer.

Anyone with information about other wanted persons or any other incident can contact the Sheriff’s Office at 229-671-2950; or anonymous tips can be provided at (229) 671-2985 or online at their website here
