ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Darton State needed two wins Saturday just for a chance to compete for the East Central district title, and they accomplished their goal.
To get out of the loser's bracket, the Cavs defeated Walters State 6-3 early in the afternoon. They followed that up with a dominating 14-7 win over Dyers bug State in the championship round.
The win forces a second game since it was the first loss for the Eagles in the double-elimination tournament.
Head coach Scot Hemmings talked about why his guys have been so resilient this weekend.
"We've played an unbelievable schedule to prepare us for this pressure type of situation. And I think that's what's prepared us all year. The amount of pressure these guys have been under from great teams and they're starting to fight through it and get some big hits in pressure situations."
First pitch for the championship game will be Sunday at noon.
A win equals a bid for the national tournament.
