SUMTER CO., GA (WALB) -

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office dedicated part of U.S. 19 to a former deputy that died overseas.

Victor Anderson died in July of 2005 when a car bomb exploded.

Anderson was serving in Iraq when he died.

A large crowd gathered Friday morning on U.S. 19 and a sign was unveiled with his name.

Sheriff Pete Smith said it was a small way to thank Anderson for his service to not only Sumter County, but his country.
