COFFEE CO., GA (WALB) - Troopers say impaired driving was the cause of a fatal wreck in Coffee County.
Georgia State Patrol troopers responded to the wreck on Bethel Road at about 9 p.m. on Friday.
According to officials, a 27-year-old male driver was traveling east on Bethel Road with two female passengers.
The driver briefly lost control of the SUV and traveled onto the south shoulder of the road, resulting in him over-correcting his steering. The vehicle then went into a ditch, vaulted, and turned over into an embankment before coming to a rest.
The driver was sent to the hospital with severe injuries. One of the female passengers was wearing a seat belt and remained unharmed. 36-year-old Tameka Johnson died on the scene.
