MITCHELL CO., GA (WALB) - The new Mitchell County Animal Rescue will open to the public.
Volunteers took over the county facility to keep animals from being euthanized. They renovated it and are building a new cat habitat.
More than 70 animals are in the shelter now.
"It's just a way for us to meet the community and the community to meet us and to come out and see the animals and the facility," said Jeanine Bowen, Co-Director.
Officials say Saturday's grand opening is a new beginning.
"To me the first day of a whole new future for not only the animals of Mitchell County but a whole new way of life for the community," said Kathy Harrell, Co-Director.
The Grand opening from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will include games and food.
