WORTH CO., GA (WALB) -

A fire Tuesday afternoon wiped out half of the Holbrook home, and smoke damage left the rest of it unlivable.

Jeffery and Tiffany Holbrook are newlyweds. Tiffany has lived here on Gates Road for over 10 years.

Now her family, including three children, are divided until they can come up with the resources to move into a new living space.

Their close friend Ashley Davis is helping out, but she says it takes a village.

"For anyone to be devastated within a community," said Davis. "You would hope that the whole community would come together to support one another."

The Red Cross has provided the family with money for clothing and other necessities, and the Best Friends Humane Society is providing a temporary home for the family's three dogs.

"They aren't like animals," reminded Davis. "They are really a person, like another child to have in the family, and for them to also be displaced is another pain for the family to go through."

Tiffany said the fire started when she left grease on the stove to cook fries for lunch. Now the family is trying to pull together in what has been a trying month.

"They started out with the car being totaled," said Davis. "And then a week after that her grandfather passed away, then they had a beautiful wedding, and a week after that the house burned down. It's just a devastating way to start a new family life."
