SUMTER CO., GA (WALB) - A lot of people are still waiting for word on the findings of a forensic audit of the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
On Tuesday, county commissioners went into an executive session to get an update from auditors who have been studying how the sheriff's office is spending public money.
Dozens of citizens showed up Tuesday night, hoping to hear the results, but they were disappointed.
"Still no word yet. A number of us up here tonight and around the county are simply waiting on the results. They want to have it right. There's a lot riding on this," said Don Davis, who is a concerned citizen.
The County Administrator said that the audit continues, but he hopes the final report will be made public in the next couple of weeks.
Over two years ago, an internal audit started at the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
County officials said that the audit is to ensure that the best practices are being used to manage public money.
