ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Red Cross volunteers help make sure the Albany Civic Center is ready to handle evacuees during a large-scale disaster.
They measured off the Civic Center floor to lay out a pattern for a shelter that could house at least 280 people.
It was part of American Red Cross training held statewide Tuesday.
The drill here had Emergency Management Officials organizing with the Red Cross for a massive hurricane evacuation from Florida.
Albany Fire Department Chief and EMA Director Ron Rowe said "There are multiple agencies involved everytime a natural disaster hits. And if we don't all get together and practice, the worst time we can ever meet is when the actual disaster hits."
Emergency officials expect an active hurricane season this year and say an evacuation to Albany is possible.
