AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

The search continues for two men involved in a shooting in Americus over the weekend.

Gerald Holley Jr., 39, gave two men a ride home to a public housing complex on Bozeman Circle around 2 a.m. Saturday.

The two men tried to steal Holley's car and shot him in the process. The men ran off without taking his car.

Police said they patrol public housing areas often to try to keep them safe.

“We consider them as part of our community also and we want them to be well-protected and enjoy what everyone else wants to enjoy--piece and tranquility in the areas that they live in,” said Major Herman Lamar with the Americus Police Department.

Holley has been released from the hospital. Police don't have any suspects at this time.

They also don't know where Holley picked up these suspects.
