AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Americus city leaders want to remind that state laws don't allow you to water your yard between 10 AM and 4 PM. The main thing the rule prohibits is setting up a sprinkler in your yard between those hours.

You can still wash your car or water a personal garden.  The policy also does not apply to golf courses and sports fields.

"Water is one of our natural resources, one that we have to be careful with. We may not be in a drought today, but in the near future, we want to make sure that we have these resources and that they're protected," said Josh Roth of the City of Americus.

Code enforcers do monitor private yards.

The first violation will get you a warning; the second will get you a fine.
