Americus police investigate overnight shooting

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Police are investigating a shooting that they believe stemmed from an attempted carjacking.

They got the call around 2 a.m. Saturday morning of gunshots in the Bozeman Circle area.

The man was shot once in the upper leg after giving a group of men a ride home to that street. The victim was found nearby in a grassy area off of Rucker Street. He was taken by ambulance to Phoebe Sumter and then airlifted to a Macon hospital.

The suspects ran off without taking the car.

Sheriff's investigators are assisting in the investigation. Authorities are holding the victim's name as the investigation continues.
