One man is dead after a three car wreck on GA State Route 97 in Decatur County. The accident happened at about 11:53 p.m. Friday at mile marker 29.
According to troopers, the first vehicle was traveling north on GA 97. The second and third vehicles were traveling south.
The first vehicle failed to maintain its lane and traveled into the northbound lane of GA 97, causing it to strike the front of the second vehicle with its front.
The third vehicle swerved to avoid the accident and ended up driving into a ditch on GA 97.
After impact, the first vehicle traveled back into the northbound lane and came to a rest on the east shoulder.
The second vehicle began to rotate counterclockwise after impact and into the east ditch. It then entered the west ditch, overturned, and came to a rest on its right side.
A passenger in the first vehicle was sent to John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville for treatment of his or her injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle was sent to Bainbridge Memorial Hospital for treatment of his or her injuries.
No one in the third vehicle was injured.
Matthew Hilliard, 20, died in the wreck.
There is currently no word on any charges resulting the wreck.
