ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Students in a couple of high-demand fields were pinned Friday night at Albany State University.

Mentors pinned nearly 40 education students.
The 2015-2016 Dougherty County Teacher of the year, Sherrie Smith-Hubbard, had words of encouragement for the graduates.
Tomeka Banks-McCartherens says she’s excited to begin teaching Kindergarten in Albany.

"Because I love people and especially children and I like to make a difference in everybody's life,” said Tomeka Banks-McCartherens, Graduate.

"Teaching is an important job,” said Thomas Thompson, Interim Dean for the College of Education. “ “I consider it the most important profession to be in and I say that because everyday teachers have the opportunity to change lives."

15 Albany State University nursing students were also pinned.
Albany State's commencement ceremony will be held tomorrow in the Civic Center.
