ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An Albany woman is pleading with the community to help find a red truck involved in a hit and run. Witnesses say that a truck hit a pedestrian, 19 year old Jamal West, Wednesday night on a skateboard, and the driver left him lying in the middle of Third Avenue. West has since been released from he hospital.

The woman calls the accident horrifying and shocking. She says her son is still shaken up from what he saw.

Sandra Wasielewski describes what she saw around 9:30 Wednesday night. She says the noise she heard was so violent, she thought it was the garbage truck collecting trash.

Her son heard it too. "So he gets up and opens the door. He goes, 'mom, somebody got hit,'" said Wasielewski.

Wasielewski says West was shaking in middle of the road. "He had no idea what was going on. He just kept saying what's wrong, I'm really hot. What happened," said Wasielewski.

Two off-duty Virginia paramedics happened to be behind that red truck. Wasielewski thinks they saved West's life. "If it hadn't been for those EMTs, they were complete God-sends. They were at the right place at the right time," said Wasielewski.

Police are still searching for the driver of that car. Witnesses say it was heading down West Third toward Slappey Blvd. The witness was only able to state that the vehicle was a "newer" model truck.

"Someone's got to come forward. That was someone's child and you have to put yourself in their situation. If it was your child, you'd want someone to do the same thing," said Wasielewski.

As for her, she's praying the victim is OK. "You kind of look at life a little differently after you experience or witness something like this. I can only imagine what he's going through because he felt everything," said Wasielewski.

West sustained a broken right arm and a possible head injury.

The vehicle could match the following years, makes and models:

  • 1997 - 2003 Ford F-150 (F-Series)

  • 2004 Ford F-150 (Heritage and SVT)

  • 1997 - 1999 Ford F-250 (F-Series)
