A shocking case in Americus leads police to issue a warning for parents with small children.

A four year-old got his mother's car into gear and crashed while his mother ran inside a gas station. The accident could have been a lot worse.

The kid managed to climb out of his car seat and into the driver's seat while his mom was getting gas at a Flash Foods. The car rolled out of the parking lot, across both lanes of Forsyth Street, and hit the city gas line.

Crews had to work a while to repair the damage to the gas line. Luckily, no one was hurt and no other cars were involved in the crash.

Police say you should never leave your kids unattended in the car.

"Even just for a moment. You want to make sure your children are properly take care of. Don't leave them in the vehicle. Don't leave your vehicle running. Take the kids. Take the keys. Lock your cars just for a moment," said Major Herman Lamar Americus Police Department

We are working to get surveillance video of the accident from the gas station.

The mother does not face any charges.  That four year old was shaken up but not seriously injured.
