ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An autopsy will be done Wednesday to determine the exact cause of death of Michael Backey, whose body was discovered last night in the Flint River.
The coroner says positive identification was done by the tattoos on the 47 year old Backey.
Firefighters found the body last evening about one and a half miles down River from the Marine Ditch boat basin, .where Backey's truck was driven into the water Friday.
"They got around the old Radium Country Club down off Skywater Boulevard. Around the old first golf tee. Out there the river makes a good bend there," Battalion Chief Keith Ambrose Albany.
"It will determine, was he deceased before he went in the water or did he actually drown in the water. That is the purpose of the autopsy," said Dougherty Co. Coroner Michael Fowler.
The coroner says toxicology tests will also be done on Backey, to determine the exact cause of death. Those toxicology tests should take about one month.
