Darton hosts last Spring commencement ceremony

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Nearly 400 cap and gown-wearing students crossed the stage Wednesday night, happy to be part of Darton State College's last Spring commencement. 

Shikerra Monday earned her Associate's Degree in Health Science Diagnostic Medical Stenography. 

64-year-old Irvin Howard graduated with a certificate in visual communication. 

He said that there's no age limit on education. 

"If there's any other senior 62 or older sitting around on the benches you need to come out here and get educated," said Howard.

"It feels good. It feels great to be graduating, finally to be done," explained fellow Monday.

Howard will attend Georgia Southwestern in the Fall, and Monday is looking for a job in a hospital or in a doctor's office.

    Health officials are urging you to be careful around wildlife and stray animals, after a South Georgia family was attacked by a fox with rabies. This happened last Thursday on Cotton Avenue in Lake Park. A man and his dog were attacked by the fox when they went outside their house. Lowndes County animal service employees said the fox's test came back positive for Rabies. "Once someone really becomes infected with the rabies virus and it develops into the disease.
