ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Cinco de Mayo takes place on Thursday, May 5, 2016.
Originally observed in honor of the Mexican victory at The Battle of Puebla in 1862, Cinco de Mayo has become a popular day for individuals to enjoy their favorite Mexican cuisines.
Natalia Rodriguez is a general manager at Casa Tapatia, a Mexican restaurant located at 108 North Slappey Boulevard.
She says Cinco de Mayo usually draws big crowds the restaurant. The general manager expects a big turnout for Casa Tapatia's Annual Cinco de Mayo Patio Party.
"We'll have waiting lists, maybe with an hour and a half wait. And people will wait because they want to try the food and the drink specials," she says.
Rodriguez isn't sure why so many people enjoy celebrating the Mexican holiday.
"I think Cinco de Mayo attracts people because it is a celebration…the drink specials are awesome, the music, the food, the culture. Maybe that's why," Rodriguez mentions.
The party will begin around 6:00 p.m. Thursday. The restaurant will have drink and food specials and live music on its patio.
"For Cinco de Mayo, we prepare days before. We're preparing our margaritas, our food. We have extra help, maybe an extra 20 people just for that day," Rodriguez says.
The restaurant will not accept reservations Thursday, but suggests guests dine early if they do not want to wait for a table.
