Dougherty County School Police are investigating the report of the rape of a special needs student at Albany Middle School.
School officials say the girl, described as mentally challenged, told her parents that she had been sexually assaulted by a student at the school, more than a year ago.
Dougherty County Schools Spokesperson J.D. Sumner said "The situation apparently stems back quite some time. Somewhere in between a year and 2 years ago. I guess when the initial incident is believed to have occurred. Our police department is involved. They are investigating it."
The girl was interviewed by the Lily Pad, child advocates, and school police investigators.
