VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta's Board of Realtors joined up with more than 30 volunteers and Lowe's Heroes employees to help build and repair homes for local families. Saturday's project was a part of Habitat for Humanity's National Women Build Week.

Finishing touches on the exterior and interior of the houses were completed to commemorate the event. Volunteers painted and did trim work, among other tasks.

Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity initiative, designed to empower women to break stereotypes and encourage them to participate in the construction of houses for low-income families.

Habitat for Humanity's National Women Build Week is a week-long event, created by its Women Build program. It invites women to devote at least one day to help families build strength, stability and independence through housing.

Since 1998, Women Build has helped to build nearly 3,000 homes for deserving families internationally. The project also supports "Home for the Holidays", a nationwide initiative launched by Lowe's and Habitat for Humanity, to work alongside families to help them build and repair their homes by December.

More than 300 Habitat for Humanity organizations across the country are hosting Women Build projects this year.

For more information on Habitat for Humanity's Women Build, you may reach them at 229-245-1330, ext. 27, or visit the website here.
