ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Darton State baseball is coming to an end, and in celebration of it's final Friday night home game, the Cavaliers put on a show for a packed crowd.
Taking on Abraham Baldwin, the Cavs offense steamrolled their way to a 14-1 victory. Following the game, kids were allowed to run the bases, and then relax under the night sky and watch a fireworks show.
This is the final year for Darton State baseball due to the pending merger with Albany state University. Head coach Scot Hemmings was glad to put on a great show for the fans.
"It means a lot for a lot of reasons," said Hemmings. "One is we're still in the running to win this conference championship. the regular season too. I challenged our guys before the game I said hey I'm ready for this team to play the way they're capable of playing. I'm tired of watching us go up and down and I'm challenging you to come out and play the way you're capable of playing."
Darton extended its lead atop region 17 by a game. Both teams return to the diamond in Albany Saturday at 1.
