LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) - Six people were injured in a single vehicle accident on GA 38 Wednesday morning in Lowndes County.
GSP responded to the accident around 8 a.m., less than a mile west of Lake Alapaha Drive.
According to officials, Jacinto Tomas was heading east on GA 38 when the van he was driving had a mechanical malfunction and Tomas lost control of the vehicle.
The van traveled off the shoulder, struck a utility pole and then overturned, landing on the top of the vehicle.
Six other passengers were in the van. Only two people were restrained and all except one were injured in the accident.
All seven occupants were taken to the South Georgia Medical Center.
The investigating trooper did discover that the CV joint was broken, causing the crash.
The eastbound lanes of GA 38 were closed for several hours because of high voltage from the utility pole that was struck, causing a threat to drivers.
No charges will be filed in this crash.
