If you live in Sumter County and you're looking for a place to volunteer, the county fire department has a spot for you.
The department is currently looking for firefighters, administrative assistants, and even people to hand out water to firefighters on site.  They currently have 55 firefighters.

The chief says they are always looking for more.  "Sometimes it's hard to get volunteers to come in and do something like this as firefighters. It's a needed essential since we're a combination fire department, and it's a great way to serve the public," said Chief John Ekaitis of the Sumter Co. Fire Department.

The chief says you can stop by 210 Rucker Street in Americus and apply, or go to one of their volunteer meetings for more information.
