MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - A much-anticipated grocery store is coming soon to Moultrie.
Construction for the new Publix shopping center is set to be complete before the end of this year.
There's already been a ton of progress here, just a few months after breaking ground.
After a lengthy legal battle over the land, Teramore Development and Colquitt county were eager and pleased to begin this project off of Veterans Parkway.
Development plans show the supermarket as the anchor of the land, with a strip center that will hold four to five restaurants.
The new center will bring more than new places to eat and shop; it will create at least 200 new jobs.
"It's going to help us out from an economic development standpoint too, because whenever you have families that are looking to coming into town, they're going to look at the total community package from recreation, your school system, retail opportunities. That's all part of it. It's going to make Moultrie and Colquitt county more attractive," said Development Authority President Darrell Moore.
Moore says they project $40 million to $50 million in retail sales next year.
The store building should be completed in September, and will open in October or early November.
