Post 31-Valdosta of the Georgia State Patrol is currently investigating a one vehicle crash on US Highway 84 at Lake Alapaha Road in Lowndes County.
They say east bound lanes will be closed until the scene can be cleared. Drivers should avoid the area and use a detour.
Troopers say a GMC van occupied by seven passengers was traveling east on GA Highway 84 when a tire blew out. The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole holding a major power line. All the occupants were transported to the hospital with injuries. Two were transported by helicopter, with critical injuries.
Due to the threat of power lines falling on the roadway and posing a safety concern to the motoring public, the eastbound lanes of GA Highway 38 will be closed for an undetermined amount of time.
The van was occupied by migrant workers, so information on the occupants and injuries may take some time, due to the difficulty identifying them, and language barriers.
The GSP said they would announce when the roadway is back open.
