LEE CO., GA (WALB) - Lee County officially joined the city of Albany rails to trails project.
The county commission approved an inter-governmental contract to allow Albany to put in gas lines and fiber optic cable along the trail and offer those services to Lee County customers.
"I'm excited to have another vendor in Lee County providing high quality services," said Rick Muggridge, Lee County Chairman. "It's just another opportunity for us to partner with our neighboring community that we're so proud to be a part of, another chance for us to work together."
Albany bought 13.6 miles of former railroad tracks through Dougherty, Lee, and Terrell Counties.
A contractor must remove rock from the rail bed before the trail can be paved.
That removal could take more than 4 months.
