ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

People at Walking By Faith Baptist Church Ministries are taking a walk for a good cause.

On Saturday, organizers will host the first annual walk-a-thon with the community, titled "Through Life Challenges, I'm Still Standing."

The objective is to support families and their children that are suffering from health hardships such as leukemia, cancer, and sickle cell disease.

The church's pastor says with the community's help, it's always pleasing to see a smile from the youth.

"If I can just put a smile on somebody's face, a child. That let's me know it's not in vain. Asked them what they thought about it and some of them at the nursing home thought about it. When they give you  the thumbs up and start smiling, that lets you know that they're ready to go with it," said Pastor Wayne Ewings, Sr.

The walk will start at 9 a.m. and will be followed by food, games, and surrounding gospel talents.

Ewings plans for the event to be held quarterly each year.

Anyone with questions may contact Pastor Ewings for more information at 229-343-8132.
