LEE CO., GA (WALB) -

Students and staff showed their appreciation for the military by wearing purple on Friday at Lee County Middle School East.

National purple-up day was actually April 15th, but the school waited until Friday so that more kids could be involved.

Staff said that they do have a lot of military families at the school and wanted to show their support.

"It's important because our military, they protect us. And these families, they give up a lot every year. Families are not here with them, moms and dads, and we want to know that we are here to support them, we love them and we appreciate all that they do for us," said Physical Educator Marri Haggerty with Lee County Middle School East.

The school said this was the second year they wore purple to show their support for military families.
