As a part of Georgia Cities Week, Moultrie hosted a Hometown Heroes event. Kids in Moultrie got an up close look at the gadgets, and people who keep the city running.

"Good morning, good morning.  My name is Sandy Knighton, I am the CND Supervisor."

Second graders around Moultrie spent their day, with up close demonstrations of a day and the life of a City of Moultrie Employee.

"How many of y'all have seen this truck in town before?" asked Knighton. "Nobody? Have you seen it?"

Even though kids see this Water and Sewer truck, this fire truck, and these police cars almost every day,  they don't always know what they do for the town and the people who live here.

"Whenever people commit crimes and steal stuff, they handcuff them, they put them in their car, and they take them over to jail," said Second Grader Mason Howell.

And Mayor Bill McIntosh hopes today will inspire these young students to understand and appreciate what these men and women do, to hopefully keep them in town to serve the community that they grew up in.

"There are a lot of opportunities in the public sector and in the government.  We have some very dedicated people who have dedicated their lives to this city.  It's very important that they understand the importance of these jobs. "

The city's hometown heroes look forward to the event every year, to explain how every department comes together to make the city of Moultrie one to be proud of.
