Albany celebrates Georgia Cities Week with Lunch on the Plaza

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

People enjoyed music, food, and the great weather Wednesday afternoon at the Lunch on the Plaza event outside the Albany Government Center.

The celebration honored government workers during Georgia Cities Week, but everyone was invited to enjoy lunch from local food vendors.

Downtown officials said that this event brings awareness to the many services the city of Albany provides and honors employees who work for the city.

"This is what we want to be able to see on a more regular basis," said Albany Downtown Manager Latoya Cutts. We want to see more events like this in Downtown, where people are actually enjoying out downtown Albany."

    According to Dougherty County Coroner, Michael Fowler, a body has been found over on the 500 block of West Third Avenue in Albany.

    Community members from the Shadowlawn area met with city leaders to talk about a new sanitary sewer expansion plan.  The expansion plan would extend North on West Gordon Avenue, to South on Shadow-Lawn Drive, then east on West-town Road to the railroad tracks off of West Waddell Avenue.  City leaders said this project is long overdue for the homeowners in this area.

    Some folks in Albany already got a jump start on their back to school preparations.  The Doughtery County Health Department held their back to school immunization clinics Saturday.
