NICHOLLS, GA (WALB) - The investigation of a traffic accident lead to the arrest of a Coffee County woman who witnesses said tried to run over another woman with a car, and threatened to kill someone with a hammer, according to the Coffee Co. Sheriff's Office.
Sherry Dorenne Moore Thomas, 50 of Nicholls, was charged with Aggravated Assault (Family Violence), Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats and Acts, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Driving with Suspended License and No Insurance.
Officials discovered that while a violent argument was happening, a Temporary Protection Order was in effect against Ms. Thomas in relation to her ex-husband, Daniel Lanier Thomas, 53, of Nicholls.
Last Thursday, deputies were dispatched to Nicholls Road and Rocky Top Road to investigate a collision.
Daniel Thomas, who had an injury to his nose, told officers that Sherry Thomas did not have license, was driving recklessly, and had struck his vehicle. He told them that Ms. Thomas had attempted to run over another woman and had threatened to kill her with a hammer.
Deputies found Sherry Thomas at her house.
The police report indicates that the trouble all started at the home of Daniel Thomas. Paula Diana McGouyrk, 57, of Nicholls was there, but left the residence on foot to attempt to avoid further problems with Ms. Thomas. The sheriff's office says she was a victim in the case.
Sherry Thomas appeared before the Magistrate Judge and bond was denied. She is currently being held in the Coffee County Jail.
