ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

You can help prevent fires in vacant homes, a problem that continues to drain resources in Albany.
Smoke was pouring out of this vacant house in the 500 block of Cotton Avenue when firefighters arrived around 8:30 Monday night.

Investigators say it appears vagrants living in the house set a mattress on fire.
Firefighters want neighbors to report suspicious activity around vacant homes because fires like this can be a danger to both the neighborhood and to the firefighters.

If you have any information about this fire, you can earn a reward by calling CRIMESTOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
