ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Southwest Georgia Regional Airport officials are working to get certified to develop unused land on their property.

They talked to Aviation Commission members about the process to obtain the Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development certification.

The airport has 85 acres of undeveloped land.

They're trying to get on the GRAD certification list to market it to attract new industry.

"We'll when you're talking in terms of economic development every little bit counts. Again we would want to gain that competitive advantage. So we'll be presenting this to the commission tomorrow and hopefully we'll get approval to move forward with the process," said Transportation Director David Hamilton.

If the airport gets on the list, it'll be the second aviation related site in the state to be GRAD Certified.
