ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A large number of Albany, Dougherty County, and state law enforcement officers targeted drug and violence crimes late Friday in an operation they call "Sweep The Streets."
The Albany Dougherty Drug Unit led the operation, with dozens of officers from the Georgia State Patrol, Sheriff's Office, and both police forces.
Doing heavy traffic stops and checks, the operation made encounters with 230 people.
Members of law enforcement arrested 12 people and handed out 70 citations.
They also issued 114 written warnings.
Albany Dougherty Drug Unit Commander Major Prurince Dice said "I believe that when we go out in large numbers, that really, it causes criminals to flee. It causes them to run and stop what they are doing."
